Rain-Flood-Wind Incident Safety and Preparedness Program (Inclusive of Typhoon, Storm Surge, and Tsunami) in a Hospital Setting – A Must Have

A situation in which there are rain and wind, which are natural events, in the community can lead to emergencies and disasters in a hospital.  The rain and wind may or may not be in the context of a typhoon, storm surge, and tsunami such as those associated with the monsoon season.  The major potential negative consequences of rain and wind are floods, destruction to properties, injuries and death to people (patients, guests, and staff), and disruption of hospital services.  With the Philippines having an average of 19 typhoons in a year and with the abovementioned risks, all hospitals in the Philippines must have a Rain-Flood-Wind Incident Safety and Preparedness Program (inclusive of Typhoon, Storm Surge and Tsunami). This program should be part of the hospital’s mother Safety Promotion and Disaster Preparedness Program.
